A very busy day has come to an end. This day started very early. Of course I started the day with a call to Shirley, I hope your back is better, Dear. What we do for our crafts!! I began playing and listing my songs again and got a call from Juan to say the inspection on my house would be Friday so I needed to get the power and water turned on for Friday. That meant I had to call both of them and make sure they are both turned on. That meant I could not just wait until Joe got home Friday to help me. Panic!!! I could ask Holly to help me and I know she would do it but who needs a helpless old Lady hitting you with that after a 12 hour work day with problems of her own and that would mean she would have to take a half day off to be here to help me call when the offices were open. SO, I got up my nerve and asked Juan what I needed to do to get that done. The power was not too bad because it only took Shanti and Landen to help me get that shut off. Juan gave me the number to call and what to say. But the water was another problem that had taken Shanti, Landen, and Joe to get that turned off and even then I got the water turned off but still had to pay for the sewer as that can not be turned off as long as I owned the house. But Juan gave me the number to call and told me what I need to ask for.
I got dressed and collected all my paper and took a deep breath and made the first call. To the power company – “PSL” That didn’t go too badly, it took some explaining that I was calling from Washington State and would not be there to make sure everything was alright to have the power turned on remotely. I did cross my fingers and told her “Oh, yes everything was ready. I figured it should be it got shut off without me there and Juan said it went alright but I forgot he had gone in a opened the fridge and freezers and I didn’t even remember it until he said he had checked the house and the power was on and he shut the fridge and freezers. So that went alright. Then I called for the water. I had to answer dozen or so questions before I could even talk to a person who could help me. Then, Oh My! When we bought the villa we were in Tennessee, we did not come down for the closing and we could not turn on the water from long distance so Tyler was going to live there for a while so he turned on the water for us. It remained in his name even after we moved there full time and we just paid the bill. When I went to shut off the water they could not find an account for that address under the name of Norman Petts and that is when I remembered what we had done and also remembered when Patty built her house Norman had her water turned on because she was working and could not go to the city hall and do that so her water is still in his name. After much explaining when I wanted my water turned off they finally left Patty’s alone and I faced another problem with mine. They could not put the account in Norman’s name because he would have to come into the office and open an account and put down the deposit and with him dead he couldn’t do that so they had to check the title company to see who owned the place. It took two days to get the title ownership straighten out and finally decided I own it now and I wanted to turn the water off not open a new account so they let me do that. They put the account in my name and turned off the water for me but as long as I owned the place I had to pay for the sewer. So I got the water turned off and had to pay only $42 dollars a month instead of $49 a month. Good so far then when I called to get the water turned on for just a couple days so the bank could appraise the place for the new sale problem,!! There was no account on that property. What!! I pay the bill, it is in my name BUT there is no account because I never put down a deposit on it. In order to turn the water on I would have to come in, bring my driver’s license and put $140 down as a deposit and then they could turn the water on for a couple days so the bank could come and inspect the house. Finally they agreed I could fill out the request, pay the $140 deposit which I would get back when I had the water turned off again and gave them the names of the new owners, and send a picture of my driver’s license. So with those directions in hand I said thank you and tried to teach myself how to take a picture of my drivers license and get it into the email. Joe had shown me how to take a picture of my check to deposit into the bank but that was all in one step that the bank had good directions for, this is taking the picture with one device and then getting that picture to another device, my Mac so I could email that back to the water company at Port St Lucie. I pushed every button I could think of and remembered how Norman took pictures and emailed them to himself so I could put them on my desk to and from there I could email them to anyone I wanted to. After a lot of swearing and trying I did it! I got it sent back to the water company and they accepted it and said the water will be turned on tomorrow. I could have let Juan do it at his end but that would have cost me $75 and that they said was not refundable so I was glad I figured out how to do it this way. Now I know how to do that!!
Also today I got the form from my last insurance company to fill out and send back to get my last petition payment sent to me. They will pay it retroactively once they get all the paperwork done on it. This is the third batch I have had to fill out and send to them but at $188 a month it is worth filling out all the papers they need. Joe has been helping me with that one so I will fill the out and wait until Joe gets here on Friday to mail the back and that takes all the pressure off of me. Shanti started this one for me but it was always one more thing and one of them was the wrong form so Joe had to call them for me as neither of us could figure out what they wanted with that set of papers. Now it looks pretty straight forward.
So it was a relief to have Luke get up and be ready to work. At least there I know what I was doing and it calmed me down a lot. The afternoon went well and I got back down to earth and enjoyed the rest of my day. I hope you all had a great day today and have an even better one tomorrow.
