Still Adjusting

Not much to report today. Otis and I had a quiet day yesterday. We were glad to see Gina in the morning. She aways comes over to say good bye when she heads for the bus. It is a nice way for us to start the day. I worked most of the morning on my genealogy. I have reorganized the way I am recording the families so it includes all the children and follows into the cousins and all blood relations. I have the direct lines of just mothers and fathers but that isn’t what most of the kids are interested in. After about five generations they don’t understand the connection. they want to know where they fit in with people they know in the world or past. For example Gina is far more interested in knowing King John of England is hanging on her family tree than she is in knowing the Otis Whitney hangs there and he fought in the revolutionary war, or that her great great great Uncle Gus died in the Andersonville prison camp. She had never heard of them and they mean nothing to her. In like manner Celina found it a lot more fun to find her lab partner was her seventh cousin than that she is a direct descendent fo John Alden. So now I am organizing my information that I have collected over the years so that when I get an inquiry as I did this month I can find a connection or not much easier. I have a person ask if I could find out who Wilson Swartz is. They found him on their family tree and can’t find out anything about him and since I have a Swartz on my tree and they are from the same area of the country how do they connect? That is the one I am working on now.
Otis sleeps all day and just waits for the kids to get home from school. Yesterday Gina came over for help on her home work but didn’t want to do it so left much too soon for Otis. He got so mad at me because I would not go over and bother Becca while she was getting supper for her family. Otis likes being an active part of a large family and now that we are alone all day and Patty isn’t coming home at 5, Otis is not happy. So today I am going to stop what I am doing and make him go for a walk. He has gotten so he doesn’t want to walk out on the side walk. He is afraid of the dogs that bark in the houses we go by, he is afraid of the cars that fly by as we walk, and he is afraid of the people who pass on the sidewalk, he seems to feel no one else has a right to be on his side walk. So we don’t walk very far before he insists on running home. So today I will walk him as far as he will go and then go out often. Depending on how far he will go I may have to go out every hour for a short walk. He needs that exercise and just running across the back yard to bark at the neighbors cats isn’t enough. He also does not like his diet. He has to lose some weight for his health and just cutting down on his food has not worked and makes him hungry all the time. So I’ll increase his exercise and keep the food leave down where the vet said it should be and see if that can bring his weight down.
My plants are all looking good and I am still watering those each day but I think now I can change that to an every other day routine. Nothing else to report. Life isn’t very interesting but this lets you all know I am still here and doing fine. Have a great day. Love to all.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
