April Showers

Patty left this morning for her blues concert, she will be gone a week. The lawn decided it was not going to wait for her to come home it really needed to be cut again and since no one else in this family is going to cut the lawn, she had the woman across the street come over and cut both lawns. Since no one here wants to use the new riding lawn mower to cut the grass we have decided to sell the new riding lawn mower and use that money to pay for the lawn to be cut.It should be enough to have the lawn cut all summer, that mower has only been used once.
Otis and I got busy first thing today and stripped my bed and my trundle and did my washing after my shower and shampoo. I thought of Norman this morning too. I haven’t had to make up a bed alone for over 20 years. All these things Norman felt I was too old to do alone I now find myself doing by my self and it may be hard some times but I get it done!! I also sent for another order of breads from kinnikinnick. That is a company in Canada and all they make is gluten free products. I used to buy from them but then I had to have a hundred dollar order to get free shipping. Now you only need a fifty dollar order and that is a little over a month’s worth of bread, English muffins, hot dog and hamburger rolls. I have tried several other kinds but I don’t like them and then I don’t have bread and I miss my sandwiches so much. Now I can have a sandwich every day. I love grill cheese sandwiches. Then I got to thinking, back when Norman was with me Phil used to send us Omaha steaks for Christmas and they were so good. We didn’t feel then that we could buy them for ourselves but now it is just me and I don’t eat much meat so if I got those I would get two meals on each small steak instead of having to have two per meal and at that price I can afford it. So I went to Omaha steaks and got some small fillet minions and a beef stew (I hope it is gulten free) again no free shipping here but they had some nice sales and I got that ordered with my new freezer I have room for all those great things. Maybe now dinners will taste good again even if I have to eat alone.
By the time I got the beds made and my laundry folded and put away it was time to get lunch and then I was so tired Otis and I took a nap that lasted two hours.
Oh James came over this morning before school. Otis was so excited. Last night he wanted to go over and see James but it was late and I would not go so Otis just sat outside the gate and refused to come in. I had to go out and carry him in to bed so this morning when James came and woke him up Otis was so happy to see him. They have really bonded which I am so happy for as when it is my time to leave I now have some one to take care of Otis, I won’t be leaving him alone again. James has promised to take care of him if anything happens to me and I am leaving some money for him to care for Otis.
We had a very hard rain shower this afternoon and I lost my TV for an hour and the fuse blew in the living room area. Jen had shown me how to fix it but try as I would I could not make it go back on. When Tyler come home I told him and he went out and fixed it. I asked what I did wrong but got no answer so I will try again next time and hope I do it right next time. That circuit goes out over the least little thing. Patty gets so mad because every time she plug in the coffee pot it goes out. Something is wrong and the builder should fix that but. We’ll see.
And now it is evening and I can watch trumps problems. I will work on my leg warmers and call it a day. Keep you face to the sun and have a good day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
