Got A Roof!

This last week we got a roof put on our house.

most of my pictures have been taken from my bedroom window as that window gets me a ring side seat for the building of the house but now this is what you see from that window.  I am so close that you can’t really see much from the window anymore.  It was fun watching the rafters go up but I didn’t take any pictures of that even though I watched the whole thing and the kids enjoyed it also, watching the crane lift the big rafter into place while the men nailed them down and tied them into place with the metal strappings that were set into the cement in each cinder block.  This house is not going anywhere in a hurricane, not even the roof.  Maybe the shingles but not the roof.

So to get a better picture I went out side and took a picture from the side walk.   This is the garage for the house.  Good looking isn’t it?

Then I tried to get a little closer.  I didn’t want to bother the men working there so didn’t go right up to the house.  They are always very nice to me and don’t seem to mind telling me about the house but I hate to bother people when they are working and in this heat they sure don’t need an old lady sticking her nose in.

Looking down the side of the garage you can see the roof better.  Now it has some flashing on the edge which it didn’t have when I took this picture. Today they are back working inside framing up the rooms I guess.  When they leave we will go over and look inside and take pictures of what they are doing now.

One last picture of the roof.  Now I think they have to wait and let the inspectors come to see if the roof is secured right and the first step on the roof is done right so they are working inside instead right now.  Next I guess it is the tar paper that goes on as I remember it from the neighbor’s house that was just replaced.  I know on that house each step had to be inspected and OKed before they could go on with it.  It took for ever to get them here to do that.  Hopefully since this is a bigger company doing the job the inspectors will be a little quicker with the inspections.  Still very exciting.  Tyler has picked out his colors and fixtures so they will not be held up with that.   Back tomorrow with more pictures I hope.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
