Happy Days Are Here Again

I had a wonderful day today.  I started out late.  I didn’t wake up at the usual 4:30, in fact I miss the whole thing.  I was sound asleep when Shirley called me at 6:02.  She was already for church and had not heard from me so worried if I was alright so face timed me and left a message that she called.  I heard the phone as I always have it right here on the bed but didn’t wake up quick enough realize what it was ringing, At first I thought I was in Florida so I tried to kick Norman to tell him to turn off the alarm, the next second I knew where I was and couldn’t for the life of me why I had set the alarm, then I realized it was the phone but it was too late to catch her before she hung up. As soon as I saw the time I knew who had called so I called her right back and we got to talk a little before she left for church.  That is only the second time in two and a half months that I have slept passed 5 a.m.  I don’t need to wake up that early so I will not set my alarm and if I revert back to sleeping until 6 like I did for years and then call Shirley a little later in the morning or early afternoon.

I was glad to be up early today though as Holly had to go into work early, they had a full house Saturday night so she had a lot of work to help out with checking out that crowd.  Also she woke up Luke so he could get some homework done, he has been sleeping so late we don’t get any work done in the morning and by afternoon I am so sleepy we don’t get much done.  From now on he will get up earlier and if he isn’t up by 9 I will go and get him up.  We are a wild combination, I am a morning person, what I don’t get done by noon doesn’t get done and he is a evening person, he doesn’t even get started till afternoon but we get alone great and can work like mad from 10 to 2.  So from now on that will be our school hours and then he will have some homework to do by himself after noons and we will end each session with a game of Spit and Malace.  My mother and father used to play that and Joe used to watch Norman and I play and always wanted to learn that.  Since Luke loves games so much he was sure Luke would like to have me play it the way Grandad and I used and keep score.  I couldn’t remember how to play it and neither could Joe so we looked up the game on the internet and found it so we read it and remembered and taught Luke.  He loved it and we had a great time today playing another game.  Yesterday Joe won the game and today Luke took us both to the cleaners so now our scores are Joe 21, Luke 30 and Ouma 0.  I;ll get even tomorrow since Joe won’t be here at least I should be able to pass him this week.  Then Joe took me to Leavenworth, he had to stop and get some paint and then we went to pick up Holly and we went for a short walk around to see some of the stores but it was cold and very snowy so they will take be back when the weather is better.  It is a very pretty town and I’ll remember to bring my phone with me so I can get some pictures to show all of you.

Laura arrived this evening so Holly is happy.  She has to go to a training so will not to be here next weekend so Holly would have to go two weeks without seeing Laura at all, which was very  disappointing to her.  Laura had called to say it was snowing on the mountain and she might be able to get through so when she did Every one was happy.  This next week will be a long one, with Holly going for a week long training session in Mephis and Joe having to put in a new computer systems in his stores on Wednesday so he can’t come up until next weekend it will be a long week for all of us so we really enjoyed the family and to have them all here tonight made everyone happy.   So now get a good nights rest and be ready to start this long week ahead of us all.

I love face time !!  I got to talk and see Becca and Patty today and then spent a good half hour seeing and talking to Kathy.  Have a great day, I shall.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
