Who Turned Out The Sun

Another cloudy day in Wenatchee.  In New Hampshire I learned to worship the sun.  Whenever the sun came out everyone would go out side and soak up all they could so when we moved South I really loved all the sunny days we had.  Of course it got so that you would head for the nearest shade just to keep out of the sun and at first OH the sun burns. But as I got older I really like the sun again because it gave enough light even in the house that I could read, knit or look at pictures..  Now I am in Washington and I often wonder again if someone shot down the sun.  I wonder if it is still up there under the clouds and I need a spot light to read.  Also everyone in the city keeps their drapes or blinds closed so you can’t even see what is going on out side.  Everyone tells me what a beautiful state Washington is and I agree the snow on the hills and mountains remind me so much of New Hampshire and they are pretty when I see them, but like New Hampshire it is cloudy too often and the snow, once it gets here it sets up house keeping and just never goes away.  In Tennessee when it snowed they never plowed the roads because all you had to do was wait a few hours and it would melt off.  Enough of that –  Let’s think of nicer things..

Yesterday was Landen’s birthday so he got to pick what he wanted for dinner and he chose a breakfast with all the trimmings so they decided to celebrate his birthday today so his Dad could be in on it too.  So this morning when Joe and Holly got up they started right in on making all the things for Landen’s Birthday brunch of biscuits and gravy, eggs and bacon, hash browns and sausage, and french toast.  Then we watched a movie Landen had picked out for us.  We all had a good time and then Holly got called in to work as there were people stuck in the elevator and they couldn’t find the key- so now Joe, Holly and Luke have gone to Leavenworth and Landed and I are here with the dog.  I guess I will take a little nap while most of them are gone as I have been awake since 4 this morning.  I woke up at 4 to go to the bathroom and when I went to try and get back to sleep when I remembered a song I had been trying to remember and I got a line of the song in my head and knew I would forget it if I didn’t write it down right then.  So I put the light on and instead googled it and found the name of the song and who sang it and by then it was time to call Shirley if I wanted to catch her before her workshop began and so my day was under way.  I had been a nice day as I started it by talking to Shirley and then I called Patty and Becca and with face book I got to see them and make sure they are well and know all is well on the Eastern Front.  Now I need to get Kathy and know the Western Front is well and safe.  I did get an email this week from Shanti but will have to wait a little for a face time with her as she is busy.  I love face time as I get to see my kids and talk with them without anyone having to travel all over the country

I have a new granny square blanket started and a baby sweater almost done so I still am going some needle work, I guess I’ll do that until I  die or go blind which ever comes first.  Not much more going on here.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
