Echo- Dot

Joe got me an amazon Echo-Dot for Christmas and I love it.  Norman and I used to listen to the Oldies station in Florida and heard many of the songs that we like. Then about two years ago they started call “Oldies” the songs of the 90’s.  I don’t know who thinks those are OLD” or Golden.  We could no longer find a station that played our music and to play records or CDs you are stuck with all one artist and many songs we didn’t really care for so we just stopped listening to the radio at all and music was a memory only.  Now with Alexa all I have to do is ask her to play a song  and she finds it for me and I can choose which artist I want to sing it.  I get all my old favorites, it takes me right back to my high school days.  My only problem is I can’t remember the name of some of the songs I loved so much back then.  I am making a list when ever I remember a title I write it down and soon I will have them all.  I wish we had heard of this when Norman was with me, he would have loved this.  He would have played with it all day.

Today Joe went in with Holly to help her for the morning and then came home for lunch and took me to Cash and Carry.  I don’t think many people do their weeks shopping there and I guess I understand but boy it is the best way to get good food at a reasonable price.  You do need a freezer, a meat slicer and imagination.  You don’t look in the meat cad and see a steak all cut and laid out for you, but you find a hugh hunk of meat all labeled as to what cut it should be and what type it is good for such as steaks, roast, stir fry, stew, etc.  Today I got the  marinated steak, stir fry or roast.  A nice big piece and Joe cut it up for me and then I got more cold cut type packages, pepperoni and peppered turkey breast.  The kids love those for lunch sandwiches and when you slice your own it is so much cheaper and fresher.  I cut them into thirds and freeze two and slice with the meat slicer the other one.  And I stay within my budget.  I also got my vegetables there a couple frozen (peas and corn) the rest fresh and they keep so well, I just can’t believe how nice their vegetables are and so reasonable.

Time to leave and go to Leavnworth to window shop and pick up Holly to go out to supper.  As we went to leave it started snowing.  Joe called Holly and she said it was snowing hard there and she questioned if I should be out on the road.  I agreed and said I would not be comfortable going out to eat when it was getting worse outside and then facing an hour drive home in the snow.  So we decided to just pick up Holly and come home go out sight seeing and out to eat another day when the weather is better.  Besides it is cold out there tonight, too cold for me.  Besides we just got some wonderful vegetables and some nice looking meat so I would far rather cook supper here  I guess I lived with Norman too long to want to go out to eat when  I have a fridge full of nice new vegetables and meat.  So Joe agreed if I wanted to stay inside tonight we can go out next week if the weather is a little better.  So Joe and Luke have gone to pick up Holly and Luke and I have two hours to cook up a storm.  Happy ME!!

I am cooking green beans with bacon and almonds, brussel sprouts roasted with a little cheese and ham chips, mashed potatoes and marinated steak.   They all look good but the true test will be in the taste.  I’ll let you know how they come out.

Joe goes back tomorrow to work and then he will be back here on Monday night so maybe we will go window shopping then. Have a great night and happy cooking.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
