Attic

I know a grandmother’s attic is supposed to be lots of fun to go through with all the old things in it and all the family history but that is one where the grandmother had lived in the house for 50 years and the family lived there for a couple generations before her.  However, I never expected so much in my attic!!  Landen and I just emptied the small crawl space attic over the garage.  We have lived in this house part time for 5 years and then full time for 3 years so when I saw all the things that came out of that space I near died.  All these years when we didn’t have room for something in the house Norman would say “Why don’t I put it in the attic.  We never threw out anything!!  Well now it has come home to roost.  Many of the things I will just put into the storage unit and decide about throwing them out when we move back to Florida- “Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow”  right?  Anyway we don’t have time to sort too much, we have Patty’s truck only today then she needs it so we need to get as much moved as we can.  Then after Thanksgiving she and Tyler will come with their trucks for one day and move to storage everything that is still left.  We need to be all out of here but the few things Landen and I need to live by Dec 2 and honestly I don’t see how we can do it but we will try.  If we can’t I will just put everything else out on the curb for the garbage truck to take away because I am headed for Wenatchee on Dec 6 or 7.  Now I can worry about getting plane tickets on that date and getting ourselves to the airport.  It will be so nice to get there anklet Joe make all the decisions and be a part of a family again so I don’t have to make all the decisions.

Today Shanti is flying out of NM and will land in West Palm so late tonight she will stay at the hotel near the air port and then rent a car and come here tomorrow morning.  She is going to take a lot of the problems over for me.  She will make all the calls for to to get my finances straighten out and take care of this leased car.  That will get me over the worst of the problem for now.  Getting old is hell!! But it is better than the alliterative !!

Landen has just left with a load for the storage units and I hope to get another one after dinner.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
