Stop The World I Want to Get Off!!

This is vacation week in the school system here in Port St Lucie.  Our grand daughter took the week off of work to take care of her three little ones, an 8 year old and twin boys 5.  If you have ever had three little ones at home all day long when you are used to going to work, you know how frustrating it can be.  At times like this we have always stepped  in to help one day by taking everyone to the movies.  We did this way back with our own three little girls and at that time we would go to the drive in where it cost one dollar for the whole car, leaving us enough money to get a snack at the snack shed to eat while watching the double feature.  Then when our first grand children came we took the parents and two kids to see ET.  Prices had gone up by then and it cost one dollar for each adult and 50 cants for the three children, two grand children and Joe.  By the time Joe was married and we took his boys to the movies prices had gone up a little more so it cost two dollars each so we took our snacks with us to the movies.Of course we went to the movies in-between these trips but not too often and yes I know things have gone up in price over the many years But I near dropped dead when I got to the movies yesterday and when I got two senior, one adult , and three children’s tickets and was told that would be $52.46 cents.   In my wildest dream I could not have imagined an afternoon at the mall movies would have gone up that much since we took Joe’s boys to the same place.  Of course that was over 15 years ago but WOW!!  Now I know why Becca does not take her family to the movies every week.  I don’t see how she can take them anywhere!  I think she is amazing to be able to give them the well rounded life she does, a single mom with three kids, I don’t see how she does such a super job,  WELL DONE BECCA!   The movies are not the only thing to have gone up, a big popcorn and three drinks $28   I am sure this will be the last time Norman and I go to the movies, we are jumping off the fast rising world.

Thursday Becca and the kids are coming to our house for lunch and a day playing at our house and I guess that will be our world from now on.  We can keep busy here and enjoy the life we have here.  We have the digging almost done and by the week end we will be planting our new blueberry bushes and just sit here and watch the world fly by.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
