Hello From Disney World

Time out to say Hello from Disney.  Feb 28, yesterday was our 66th wedding anniversary and we decided to celebrate it in Disney World.  It has been about 20 years since we last came here so thought it was time to go and see the changes and to renew old memories.  I first came here with my son when he was young and we spent all  trips in The Magic Kingdom as that was all there was here then. It was fun to show Joe all the rides and fun places.  At that time we always had one meal in Cinderella’s Castle as our high point of the trip, it was expensive but no worse than any sit down meal is now.  Then in the 80’s we came here with our grand children.  Tyler. grandad and me almost lived here we came so often.  We used to stay at Mouse Mountain, a camp site off the Disney grounds as it was cheaper but always spent the days in the park.  We even went to the Disney Fort Wilderness camp ground four or five times.  Then as  Tyler and Becca got older we didn’t go as often as it is not as much fun without the kids but we did go to Epcot a few times in the early 90’s and even went to The Animal Kingdom once.  Since then we had not come to Disney and just wanted to see how things had changed and try to bring back some of the fun of years past.  WELL, things have not changed much, except there are ten times as many places to stay in Disney and there are many tens times as many people!!  We have a nice room in The Caribbean  Resort and we have busses that take us to any of the different parks.  We got three one day passes so had to decide which parks we wanted to go to as they are not park hopper passes.  We thought we would spend all three days in Epcot but found after the first two days things had not changed much and it was not as  much fun as it used to be when we had kids with us AND all that walking was much too hard for 84 and 86 year olds.  So today we went to Planet  Hollywood .  That had changed from the old MGM park.  It is bigger and now tons of gift shops and places to eat but the rides are all the same.  We stayed for four hours and that was long enough so now we are back of the resort and will nap and then go swimming in the pool.  It may be another 20 years before we came again but all the kids will come and enjoy it as much as we used to.  They don’t mind the crowds, the long lines, the rush and the sun.  We saw all we wanted to, we got a nice sun burn and satisfied ourselves that some things don’t change, just get bigger and faster.  Home tomorrow and ready to stay put for a while.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

My belated anniversary wishes to you and Norman! It sounds like you had a wonderful Disney visit. Our #4 child and her step daughter are going to St. Augustine next weekend to visit her in-laws and are looking forward to lots of warm weather.
