Good Night

Shanti sent me a book, “Good Night” and I am making the animals from the book for Prem.  The book arrived today.  I saw the order from Amazon so could see some of the animals so I have been working on them all week.  Yesterday we went to Staples to get my pattern for the dinosaur.  I have the pattern but I had to have it copied at 200% and my printer doesn’t do that so we went to Staples and got nine patterns from that book enlarged.  I got the green fleece last week so now I am all set and ready to start on him.  Photo on 8-10-16 at 7.55 PM

This is Silly Jojo, the rabbit.   She is all done. Photo on 8-10-16 at 7.54 PM

This is Max, the bear.  I have him all done except for sewing on the strap.  I am now working on Zoe who is a Raggedy Ann type doll.  I have her clothes done and now just need to sew on the face, add her hair and finally stuff her.  Then I need to make the dinosaur, Oscar who is a clown and the yellow rubber ducky.  I can’t make a rubber duck so I may look and see if I can find one otherwise I will crochet a duck for her.  Then I need to find a big box and send them all to CA to Prem.  I will also send Dyhana’s set in the same box.

Today I started my newest projects.  Finger puppets. Photo on 8-10-16 at 7.56 PM

This is my first, it is a camel.  I think he is prettier than I am but that is life!!  Now I spend a hour or so on each of my projects so I don’t get bored working on any one thing.  I start the day with an hour stitching on my fleece animals and clothes.  Then though the day I spend a hour on knitting baby sweaters, another on crocheting baby granny square blankets – I have a box with baby items for any one who has a friend expecting and right now all my boy’s sets are gone so I need to add a few more.  Then I spend time on pinning my fleece animals getting them ready for the next day’s stitching. And crocheting my princess and the pea.  I have the prince almost done, I only need to put the face on him and then I will work on the princess again.  I do a little on each doll and then need time to just look at them for a while to see how I am going to get them just right.  Most of the time they work out fine but some I have to do over to get them the way I want them.  I hope to have 5 or 6 finger puppets done by Sunday when we go over to Patty’s house.  I want to bring them for story time with Becca’s kids.  I want to get Little Red Ridinghood done and a could animals for them to play with while we adults visit.  So now it is back to stuffing Zoe’s arms, I am making one for Prem and one for me.  Have a good night.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

Oh I just can’t wait to see them! The grandkids will be so excited!

    • Hi, Today I got the pattern cut and ready to get the cloth cut for the dinosaur and put the arms on the rag doll. I can’t make a rubber duck so I ordered it from Amazon so that should be here tomorrow. Sooo I should have them done some time next week, then it is just find a box big enough for all the dolls and animals. I think UPS is the way that it has to go as the box will be too big for USPS. Today Dad went to Stuart for an appointment with Dr Davenport. The pressure in his right eye was way too high when he went for his shot last month so he had to have it checked by a cataract doctor. Today the pressure was still too high which means they need to get that under control or he will lose the peripheral vision. It was decided there was not that much to be gained with a cataract operation on that eye and that eye drops are the best solution. So he will be on daily drops for a month and hope that takes care of it for now hope it doesn’t develop into glaucoma. Talked with Phil. He was still in the hospital because he has trouble swallowing. Patty heard later from him that there is no blockage, just general wearing out of the whole area so he will just keep trying to eat enough to get his strength back. When they let him out of the hospital he will go to hospice so he will have someone around to help and keep him company when he needs it,Love Mom

You are keeping so busy, Carol! We have been having such hot, humid weather and it makes me plain lazy. The gardens are producing but I don’t know how; we haven’t had any rain in a month. It rains all around us so we should soon get some.

    • Hope you rain has come. I remember trying to grow things without the rain and it was no fun. You don’t know hot and humid until you have lived in Florida! Right now it is in the 80’s all night and in the 90’s all day with high humidity so that it feels like 105 most days. All of our fresh vegetables at the farm stand are coming in from Georgia or Tennessee as it is too hot to grow much unless you water every day and give it some shade. We do have a few herbs but those we have to keep covered as the rabbits love my parsley and right now they just hold their own. When the weather cools a bit they will grow enough to keep up with my using some of them. I do miss the harvest at this time of the year but I don’t miss the awful weed growth that comes in the fall. I will just remember the fun.
