Long Time Gone-

Hi, It has been quite a time since I blogged last and I have 50 thousand excuses but no good reasons.  I have spent most of my time sewing and watching the conventions.  At least the Democratic Convention has left me in a positive mood so I can happily get back to say Hello to everyone.  I don’t remember where I left off with my toys because I never work on just one story, I jump back a forth depending on what I feel like making at the time.  So I will just show you the things I have been finishing up this last couple weeks.  Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.41 AM

Today I finished Peter Rabbit’s jacket and shoes.  He doesn’t have his shoes on in this picture because I took the picture before I got the buckle on the shoes.  Now this story is finished.  I have Floppsy, Moppsy, Cottontail and Peter.  Peter has to have the jacket and shoes because he loses those when he went into Mr. McGreggor’s garden.  I also have the mouse and the cat that told him where the gate was so he could get away and get back home and I have the pail he hid in.  Now when the kids are here they can play out the whole story while I read it.  Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.41 AM #2

These are for two other Beatrix Porter stories.  First is Hunca Munca, then her husband Tom Thumb.  He has a pair of overalls almost done.  They go with the story of “Two Bad Mice”  I have the doll house up in the attic which I will bring down when we read that story.  I also want to make some of the food that they try to eat.  The last one is Mrs Tittlemouse, also by Beatrix Porter but I need to make some of the bugs that get into her house and Mr Frog.  There is a third mouse that is with another song and his name is Uncle Rat.  Before I used the big mole as Uncle rat but I like this one much better for Mr Rat.  He does’t need any clothes as he gets eaten by the cat and clothes would not fit with the song.  Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.41 AM #3

This is another of the stories I have now finished. This is Rapunzel, I have two sets of this one.  There is Rapunzel, her tower, her prince and the witch that put her in the tower.  I made two sets because Dyhana wanted a set and I need one here to go with my Fairy Tale Book.  Now I am working on The Princess and the Pea for me and I have to start working on “Good Night” for Prem, Dyhana’s sister.  Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.42 AM

This is the lion pair, they go with the story “Giraffes Can’t Dance.”  I will never be finished with this one as all the animals of Africa come to the dance.  I have most of the ones that dance but all the others come to watch so I am just making any I find and like.Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.42 AM #2

These are the rhinos for the dance.  Another story I will never be finished with is the Polka Dots and the Jolly Swagman.”  For this story it takes all the animals of Australia, they all come to see the camel races and I keep finding more so I just add another.  Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.42 AM #3

These are the ostriches. You can see the smaller camels in front.Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.42 AM #4

These are harder to see as they are getting a little crowded but there are four camels for that same story.  I was going to make six but I need to stop now and get Prem’s animals done.  I need a Teddy Bear named Max, a Raggedy Ann doll,  a clown – not a circus clown but more like Pierrot, a dinosaur  and one other that I have forgotten right now.  Shanti is sending me the book so I can make the toys look as much like the ones in the book as I can.  I do have five or six books of stuffed doll patterns so can find most any I need or can adapt a pattern to look like them.  Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.44 AM

I don’t know if I showed you my walruses.  These don’t go with any story at the moment I just like them.  Photo on 7-30-16 at 6.43 AM

And this is the princess.  All I have done is her head,  She is going to be quite a bit bigger than the other dolls but that is good because the Queen and Prince I am using is from my book “50 Character Dolls ” and they are quite big so she will go well with them.  I also got the foam rubber to make all the mattresses I will need for that story.  I will work on those in-between doing Prem’s animals.

I guess that catches us up.  I am not going out much as it is right around 100 degrees here every day so I have lots of time to sew and play.  I hope you are all having as much fun as I am.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
