First I finished dressing Black Mombo and made the fourth tiger so now Little Black Sambo is all finished.

I am still working on the Swagman story but have added a new creature. Photo on 6-28-16 at 8.48 AM

This is Rainy, the rainbow snake and a few of her hundred babies.  And I am now working on the “bragging flies”  Photo on 6-28-16 at 8.50 AM #3

Bragging flies are giant dragon flies that brag all the time.  You can’t see but they do have black eyes and a big mouth.  I also have to add a double pair of wings.  I keep adding a piece here and a piece there as I figure out how to make them.  I also added the bundles of straw and bundles of sticks for the Three Little Pigs story and now only need the piles of bricks for the last pig and that story will be already.  And I need to make a jacket and shoes for Peter Rabbit to finish that story, today I cut out the mouse for that story and still need a cat and that story will be finished.

I have been working on the story of Africa= Giraffes Can’t Dance.  Here are the ones I have done so far.Photo on 6-28-16 at 8.43 AM #2

I will show you a close up of them in a minute.  Photo on 6-17-16 at 11.59 AM #2

This is the book and all the animals of Africa come to see him dance. Photo on 6-28-16 at 8.39 AM #2

I only needed one giraffe but I needed a pair of all the other animals so I made a pair of these also.  At first I had trouble making them stand up but once I hobbled their legs the problem was solved. Photo on 6-28-16 at 8.42 AM

The first of the big cats.  Today I cut out two jaguars and I still have two lions to do.  Photo on 6-28-16 at 8.42 AM #2

Here are the rhinos and the hippos will get cut out tomorrow or the next day.  Photo on 6-28-16 at 8.43 AM

I have one elephant done and will need one more.  There are about seven more animals to make for this story and I will get them done a few at a time but I also have my book of fairy tales to work on. Photo on 6-28-16 at 8.38 AM

This is Rapunzel.  She is almost done.  I still have to put the ivy and flowers on the tower and spray starch the top of the tower.  Then I want to make the prince and the witch that put her in the tower.   Then I have to make a second set for Dyhanna .  It seems to go so slowly and I get quite pushy to get them done but then I remember I have a whole life time to get these dolls made and I should not wish that life away, it is going fast enough as it is.  So I slow down and enjoy the one I am working on at the moment.

We are both well and happy.  We manage to keep busy here in Florida even if we can’t work out side because it is so hot.  We go over to White City each week to check on my space at the Antique Mall there.  I try to add something new each week.  So far things have been selling well even if the season is past.  The old song sheets and the Old Farmer’s Almanacs seem to sell enough to pay for my space and I can’t ask for any more than that now.  This month I may have to pay a little for my space out of my own pocket but it is worth it.  I made enough in the fall, winter and spring to pay for all the materials I needed to work on my new hobby of story books and the dolls to go with the stories, and that is all I wanted from my space in the Mall.  Have a great day and Enjoy your life.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

Your work is quite amazing! I hope I can bring Dhyana to come see all the wonderful animals as she would love the stories. She is at summer camp now, and if that goes well than Papa will let her travel a little with me. Love you lots, and wishing you a great day.

    • Hi, I showed the picture of Dhyana to Gina and she loved her cat. I then told her the story of the boys and their spirit animals and after a week thinking about it she told me she wanted an imaginary pink cat. She could not remember the name “spirit” so I am making her the pink cat. Maybe that will get the boys to tinkling about one for them also. I hope Dhyana can come this year but if not I will send her the doll I am making for her. I have the girl and the tower done and am now working on the prince and the witch for the story. I have been working with rice flour and having some success with that instead of the wheat for me. I still do all Dad’s with the whole wheat stone ground flour as it agrees with him and he loves it. Patty said to be careful and not have too much rice but that is true of anything. Moderation is the key with anything as even water if over done can be deadly. Looking forward to see you. Love you lots, Mom
