Not Beautiful But Mine

This morning I finished Swagman.  I got the last of his hair done and now he is totally finished with his book and historical story.

Photo on 4-3-16 at 8.40 AMI also put together Oscar.  He isn’t beautiful but he is my baby and will do of my story.  I still have to make his clothes.  He has a shirt and trousers and I think those will make him less floppy.  His head is secure as I used the correct joints for that but I did not use them for the arms and legs.  I had gotten a box of them for a project I did about 20 years ago but at that time I was working and had all the money I wanted.  I had to get two dozen in order to get the two that I needed for the doll I was making then but now they are just too expensive to have to put 5 in each bear so I use it for the head so that does not flop but I use button and yarn for the arm and leg joints and they are floppy.  Photo on 4-3-16 at 12.27 PM

Here are three different poses of Osar.  You see he is not pretty but he does have lots of personality.  His mouth is lopsided but I don’t think the kids will mind.  I will like him better in a day or two when I have gotten away from the struggle to put his arms and legs on and I have a chance to play with him and talk to him.

Today I cooked spare ribs.  We have a very small piece of meat at each meal and I have found you just can’t cook half a pound of some things and have them come out good.  So now when I want to roast a chicken or make BBQ spare ribs I make a whole recipe and just divide it after I cook it.  When we went to BJ’s this week I found spare ribs for $1.29 a pound instead of the $4.49 I had to pay last time.  So I got the 6 and 1/2 pound package and cooked up the whole thing today.  And OHHH did they come out good.  Yesterday I roasted a small chicken and I always get four meals from that .  I hate to freeze the left overs as that dries them out so badly.  Now I have three meals of chicken and three meals of spare ribs ahead so we will have one- one day and one the next for the week.  I usually reheat the left overs in different ways so they taste different each day.  Of course I do the same for the vegetables so each day I can have meat, potatoes, salad and at least three different vegetables and not have to spend all morning cooking.  This week with my meat all cooked now I will have a very easy week so I will have more time to sew.

I hope my patterns get here soon so I can try some animals with my new cloth.  The animals should come out better than with the fun but they can’t be as cute I am sure. Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

Very beautiful Mom! The fur is so soft you can feel it in the picture!

    • Thank you, Dear. His eyes are too high up on his face. Lucinda is better. I’ll put her together tomorrow, then I’ll make their clothes. I will use these for the story of Goldie Locks and the three Bears. I have the book coming the end of this week. He is soft and his fur is much stronger than scalawag but both are very foppy and I guess that is what gives each their own personality.
      Nice to hear from you.
