A Day with Gina

Christmas vacation was always something to look forward to but this year we were not so sure.  Patty and Becca had to work several day so the twins went to the baby sister those days and were very happy as they love her and the other kids that are at the day care center but Gina is too old for the baby sitter and it cost too much for her mother who now has to pay for all the extras so Norman and I agreed to keep Gina for those days.  The ones before Christmas went well as there were things to do getting ready for Christmas but I had no idea what we would do today and an 8am to 3:30 is a long day for a couple old farts to keep up with a six year old.  So we worried a little, hoping she could play by herself some.  Well the day went great.  She played alone some, picked up each thing she played with before getting out something else and went onto the computer to do the homework without a fuss or muss.  She spent almost an hour on the computer this morning doing reading and the same this after noon doing math.  This is a new program they have just started for their home work practice for the tests and I love it.  The direction are all read to her and she can have them read as many times as she needs, the steps are small and all things she has done with the teacher at school so she knows what she is doing.  I sit near her and watch but don’t have to do anything- she does it all.  At last I am happy with the new school ideas.  Then we played dolls some and dress up and stopped when I got tired.  I had some time to do my knitting and now it is 3:40 and I am sitting down, happy and ready to have her on Monday with no worrying.  She was an angle today.  Here are some pictures I took of her today so you can see the fun we had. Photo on 12-31-15 at 1.45 PM #2

This is where she spends a lot of time.  Her library is just beside her and she has all things close at hand and loves to lay here and color or draw or look at her books.  Photo on 12-31-15 at 1.44 PM

When she wants to set up some toys to play with or to work on a project, she sits here at this table with a small chair.  This morning she made a monster cup.  Photo on 12-31-15 at 1.46 PM #2

She spent a long time on this cup and had a great time.  Then we played with the dolls, she dressed the dolls and I knitted.Photo on 12-31-15 at 1.35 PM

This is a curtain I made for the long narrow window in the dinning room but I didn’t like the multi color so I made another one in white and that is the one I use.  When Gina found this one she had a good time playing dress up with it.  All in all we had a great day.  She ate a good breakfast and ate a good lunch and took a tomato for her snack to go home with.  Have a Happy New Year.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
