We’re Busy doing Nothing

We’re busy doing nothing working the whole day through, trying to find lots of things not to do.  We’re busy going nowhere, isn’t it just a crime, I’d like to be unhappy but— we never do have the time!!  I remember this song from ” A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”.  I always liked the movie and the song but now I know what they mean.  We are busy every day moving things from here to there and back again and having a blast.    Norman is busy in his workshop again.  When they put in the new attic stairs he had to move his work bench over a foot or two which put the peg board off center, and he didn’t have enough room on the peg board for all his small tools so today we went to Lowes and ordered the twins birthday present and got another peg board for Norman’s work area.  He put his big tools back and put some of the biggest ones up in the attic and now is putting up his new peg board.  Instead of moving the old one he is just adding on a new one.Photo on 8-31-15 at 10.31 AM

This is his old peg board and his new one standing on the floor.  He will mount it on the left in this picture hanging vertically beside the bench, this will put it over the low storage shelves you can’t see in the picture.  He will spread out some of the things on the present peg board and take some of the things from his shelves on the other side of the room.

I got called away so could not finish this so will now.  Tuesday after a busy start.  Patty called, she had the three children to get ready for school and delivered so we went over at 6:45 and helped get them ready and off by 8a.m. Then we had breakfast and went to White City.  I did pretty good for sales last week and sold 4 items so l made my rent for Aug with just a little to spare.  They are only open for 4 hours a day because they have no AC and it gets so hot there in the summer.  None of the snow birds are here yet so I have done very well sell what I have, mostly old tools.  Today I took over some more old tools, an old aze, a foe and mallet, and an old tobacco knife.  Now to finish yesterdays tale.Photo on 8-31-15 at 10.32 AM

Here is where Norman has put the rest of his tools, it is on the other side of the garage.  He will move most of these over to his side and let me have two or three of these shelves for pots and pans.  The set of shelves to the right in this picture are electric pan and cook ware and I need more space.  The extra paper products are on the top shelves now.  Everything is backwards in the pictures to the way it really is.  My lap top, which I use to take the pictures turns everything around so those of you who have been here have to thinks left is right and vise-a-versa. Photo on 8-31-15 at 10.32 AM #2

Here are my shelves, notice the fry pans are all hung up here and on the ends of the walls.  My spices are on the other side of the wall.  Photo on 8-31-15 at 10.32 AM #3

This is my pantry.  Too hot here for food so it is all my cooking dishes, pots and pans and utensils .  I so need more space so will be glad to get those other two shelves and more hooks so I can get the rest of my utensils out of the kitchen draws and hung up.  You can see the spices on the left.  I gave away and threw out more than half of them as I don’t do the fancy cooking as much any more.  Neither Norman nor I need to be teased into eating so I try to keep the cooking simple.    It will take a few more days to get this area all sorted out and in order.  Have a great day, time for me to get dinner.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
