Just An Update

Fall has arrived and the weather is beautiful but we could use some rain.  I guess I am never satisfied, it is either too wet or too dry but it really has been a perfect year for rain.  We are still wrapping things up here and getting the farm ready to leave for a good winter’s rest.  Tomorrow Norman will pick the beans for the last time.  Next time I need beans he will pull the plants and get the last meal off the vines.  The Swiss chard is still going and the peppers are still abundant.  It also looks like we will have some sweet potatoes but only when we dig them will we know how many and the vines still look great so we will not dig them yet.  I have been sewing each day and have a very nice set for the twins almost done.  When I get the button hole done tomorrow I will take a picture for you.  Today we went to Whitwell.  The lawn is a big field with weeds as tall as I am.  We also found two problems that will need to be fixed when Joe gets here.  There is a leak in the toilet and there are bees under the siding by the back door.  Norman will meet Joe when he gets here and they will take care of both problems if they can or call professional if they can’t do it themselves.    Other than that everything looked good and can’t wait for the family too move over here.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

Carol, Guess I am always asking questions. What ” family ” is moving in to the Whitehall house? Didn’t Joe and his family move there just a while back but not happy there ? Have you rented out the house now? Do I miss some email blogs along the way with more details? Maybe I am too much like my mother or was it your mother…….always asking questions. One more…..When do you plan to go to Port St. Lucy?? Maybe this year you can manage to stop in to see Tim at the office on Rt. 1 in Fort Pierce. Easier to find than their house on the P.G.A. complex in Port St Lucy. Now Mike is also at his condo after Christmas in Port St. Lucy. When it is very cold I will be asking myself again why I am not there too!!! Strange how close by you and Tim have lived all these many years. First in Fort Pierce then in Port St. Lucy. So….until I have more questions…..
    Love always, Nancy

    • Hi Nancy, You think your confused? What about me!! Yes, Joe and his family were here for about 6 months, they moved here for the job Joe had but just before they moved in the job was taken away from him but he came over anyways and got another job with a company he used to work for. But Holly could not get a job. The job market was very tight last year here. There are more jobs now, thank goodness. They just could not make it here with just Joe working in a job that was not living up to their promises so they went back to OK where Joe had worked about two years ago and where Holly had a job waiting for her. Joe worked there for this last year and again the job did not come through with all they had promised and the CEO of the company in TN found out what had happened here and talked with Joe himself and now Joe is coming back to work for him with all the things that had been promised to Joe to begin with. Norman had always told Joe the only way he could get promoted to position he really wanted was to leave and go to another market. As soon as he did that they realized how good Joe really was in his job so now I think he is set for a while. Now to Port St Lucie. I wish I could say we would visit Tim but I know Norman will not go and I don’t drive. My cousin, Mary Lou (Mclaughlin) Didden lives right there in Port St Lucie now. She lived just up the coast all the time we lived in Florida and I got up to see her only once in all those years and have seen her only once since we moved back to Port St Lucie. I write to her every week but Norman is not much of a social butterfly so we don’t visit relatives or friends. I go up to see Shirley only once a year and then Patty takes us so to say I could visit a cousin’s son that I have not seen for years and years is a pipe dream that will never happen. I am content now to just write to people and let Norman live our lives the way that makes him happy, it seems to be keeping him alive and well so I am not about to rock the boat now. Love always Carol
