Sunday, our day of rest. The only jobs that need to be done today is clean the house and write the family letters. I started the day doing a little sewing and got a couple pair of pants for the twins. After breakfast I cleaned the stove and Norman cleaned the house while I wrote letters. After break we went down to the garden to get some Swiss Chard and I saw the green bell peppers were turning red so I knew they need picking. I picked a basket full of red peppers, green peppers, banana peppers, tomatoes (both green and red) and Swiss Chard. I always like to have three vegetables as well as meat and potatoes for dinner. I had green beans, butternut squash and some Swiss Chard that I always cook with the pork chops but I needed to do something with the peppers and tomatoes but I wanted something that I liked so I did green fried tomatoes (just two because Norman isn’t too fond of those) Then I found a recipe for fried peppers and tomatoes. It was different than any recipe I had tried before so I took a chance and cooked up 4 green peppers, 6 banana peppers and 6 small tomatoes and at the end I grated a little cheese on them and they turned out great. Even Norman like these and he does not like green bell peppers but he like these. Now I have a good recipe to use my peppers with and I am a happy camper because I have a garden full of peppers and my garden will last a little longer getting me three vegetables each day at dinner without having to hit the freezer too often. Now the rest of the day I can sew, read or work on my genealogy which ever I feel like at the moment. Have a good day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts
I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
Just caught up on your blog Carol. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY a few days late!!!! Does that mean you are a Libra? Peter is one ( the 29th ) and Dick and Sue both are as well. Nice people!!!!! I guess that makes you 82 y.o., the same as I am. Luckily, I don’t feel that yet. Think it is true that one is only as old as you feel. Enjoying my life here in Keene even with winter before us. We are always busy but a much different lifestyle than yours. College classes starting again and the book club already going. I meet with 6 of my nursing classmates this week for lunch and to plan the 2 nights we are spending at a motel on Hampton Beach in Oct. The weather isn’t an issue whatever it is for we will enjoy being together and talking our foolish heads off. I will room with the same gal I was with over 50 yrs.ago. Imagine!!!!! So life goes on and I say…….” let the good times roll!!!”
Love you always, Nancy
Thank you. I did have a very Happy 82nd Birthday. I am a Virgo. I don’t remember where the cut off point is but I think I am on the cusp. We have never lived the same kind of life, have we? I will have to learn to I’ve a very different life style when we sell the farm because we want to branch out in a new direction, one that is not based on hard work. Norman is going to try to be more social, we’ll see how that works out. Your trip to the Beach sounds like fun, have a good time. Love you Carol
