HOT!! HOT!! HOT!!

The weather is coming straight out of the South today which makes it very humid and hot.  It was 70 when we got up at 6 so I knew we were in of a hot one and now it is 84 both in and out and quite humid.  As long as I sit still under the ceiling fans it is aright but to do any work – forget it.  When I went through “the change”  the only thing it did to me was to cancel my thermostat,  I just can’t regulate my body temperature anymore so heat bothers me and so does really cold weather so when it gets like this you can hear me “bitch”.  I hate to turn on the AC as Norman complains so much about it – he loves the heat!  We are the original Jack Sprat and wife.  Remember “Jack Sprat could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean.   So betwixt them both they licked the plater clean.”  That is us in every way –  You can be sure if I just love something, he can’t stand it and vise-versa.  I guess that is why we have been together so many years-  we have every base covered.  No matter what life throws at us one or the other will like it so the other puts up with it.

Today I needed to cook – Norman was all out of deserts.  So I started the morning making an apple pie and an apple tart.  He quartered the pie and froze that and is eating the tart for deserts today and tomorrow.  I am still trying to lose weight so I have one bit-o-honey for my deserts.  Tomorrow I will make a cake and he can cut that up and freeze that, then he can choose which he wants for desert each day.  Maybe I’ll make him some cookies too. Anyways, after I got the pie in the oven I finished picking and cleaning the peas and we too a walk down to the garden.  No foot prints and the green beans look like they have all recovered so Norman took the Mint-X bag out of the garden and put a new one in because the smell was all gone in that one.  He will use it in the waste basket.  Our new beans are up.  When I looked at the cauliflower I found I had to pick both of the last two.  One was perfect and weighed 3 pounds, the other got too wet and I lost about half of that one.  I brought them up to the house and blanched and froze 4 quarts of cauliflower one pound each and them did the peas and got 3/4 of a pound of peas.  I just fell asleep in the middle of this so guess I will close and take a nap – then I can do some more sewing.  I cut out a new outfit this morning during my sewing time so am looking forward to seeing how that one works out.  Have a nice day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
