Twins are the Best – A Double dose of Love!

Becca, Patty and I got together and decided who was to do what for Thanksgiving this year.  I am just getting to old to do it all and I do want to do Christmas Eve so Thanksgiving this year is to be a family affair.  I am to do the dinner rolls, stuff the turkey, cook the ham, make two pies, and make clam dip.  Patty is to get the turkey, and  ham and cook the vegetables.  Becca will do the mash potato make some onion dip and get chips, host the affair an put together all the hundred of details as well as cook the turkey.   I made the brown and serve rolls and have them in the freezer.  Patty heard Publics had their turkeys on sale at 59 cents a pound so got a 14+ pound turkey and a large ham and brought them over here for my fridge to let the turkey threw.  I though the turkey look good so we went out and got two smaller ones, one for Becca in Jan and one for us in Feb and we put those in the freezer.  Patty could not resist the low price and got one for herself for Feb.    Then Patty got to thinking about Thanksgiving and remembered how good the fresh turkey are and knew they had less salt so when Publics got their fresh turkeys in on Friday, she went in and got one of those, a 19.22 pound turkey and brought that over here.  Now we had four turkeys and a large ham stuffed into our fridge.  Patty said to give the first turkey to the Olive Branch so makes a big dinner for the homeless on Thanksgiving but you know me, I had to waste anything.  Today the turkey was all thawed out so I got it ready and cooked it.  Instead of stuffing it I rubbed it down good with sage and put onion in side it and cooked it.  It was in the oven by 6:30 and out in time for dinner.  It came out great.  We had dinner on it, took off half the breast and wrapped t up for Tyler and took the rest of the meat off the bones to make different casseroles and pot pies for Becca next month.  I used the bones to make turkey soup for us for suppers for a while.  It came out great.  I am glad I didn’t give the turkey away, I feel guilty about it but it was just so good!!

W spent the afternoon playing with the twins.  James and Colby may be twins but two brothers could not be more different than those two.  They are both very smart little guys and both very good but so very different.   Now James has glasses, he is only two and looks so darn cut with them and so good about keeping them on.  He loves seeing the world so really seems to like them.   Gina has grown up so much.  She is still a big tease.  She like to push  and see just how much she can get away with but know now when to back up.  She is going to school his year and likes kindergarten but doesn’t like the home work.  She gets more home work in kindergarten than we used to in junior high.  I hope it does more than just make the kids sick of school before they get to junior high.

  Have a great day

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
