We have been in Florida a week already and we are all settled in. The weather has been perfect. Today we got our first rain and the garden was glad. I didn’t mind because it waited until the day was most done and we were inside for the rest of the day. My garden here consists of 7 pineapple plants and one small rose bush. Doesn’t take much work to keep that but it does always need weeding and I don’t always get to it. I have spent my time working on my family tree and making great progress. I am finding some very interesting ancestors such as one of Norman’s grandmothers who was hung as a witch in 1692 or the grandfather that was an Indian chief. After I collect all the names I can find I want to go back and find all the interesting stories I can about all of the people on the tree and find a way to display them. Norman is keeping busy doing all the small finishing jobs around the house. Right now he is tiling the floor in the closet and putting in a couple more shelves. He has many such jobs to do and if our budget gets stronger he will add a couple big jobs to his list such as up dating the master bath but for now he will do the many, many small inexpensive jobs that take time not money and really make a great improvement in the place.
The duplex across the street from us had a fire this fall. One side was completely gutted and the other side had water and fire damage. There was a death in the fire which made the whole thing even sadder and she had no insurance on her unit. They will take the whole duplex down and at the moment there are no plans to rebuild so the association will have to decide what to do with the land and what the owners will be responsible for. This development was built in 1979 and this is the first fire here.
We are both well, Norman had another shot in his eye but his eye is healthy so no problem there and I am all over my poison oak and my cold so life is good here. Have a great day.
Glad to hear you are in Florida, and getting along fine. Hope you have a wonderful winter. It is starting to get cold here. No snow yet, except for a few flakes. You be sure to stay healthy this winter. Always happy to hear from you guys..Love you…♥
Nice to hear from you! The only problem with growing old is you don’t get to see old friends anymore so am always so glad to hear from you and know you are still there and kicking. I will try to blog more often now with no outside work to do I guess I have no excuse not to except there is less to talk about here. Take care of yourself. Love you
Carol, So glad to learn where you are and that all is well. I hope my recent letter/email got to you eventually….do they forward your mail now??? I will look and see if I have a phone # in Fl. so I can speak to you before long. Can to phone me ” free ” from Fl.? I am soon makeing a major move myself and not very good at this big step. So many ” things ” to deal with and you have been into this stuff for years. How to even begin is my problem.
Peter wants me to move in with him, at least for the winter, and see how it goes. Getting Jade adjusted to a new place and new schedule is my first problem and then make a slow transitional move of my own. Hate to leave the house empty for the winter and need to learn how best to do that also. Will have lots of questions for Mike and Dick Thanksgiving Day when we are together.
So life moves on and we have so many changes to make. I remember you always liked to have change, found it exciting. Do you still feel that way at this age???? I have never enjoyed change because I have had too much of it in my life without any choice in the matter. Think I’ll stop here and get something done before the day is gone…..AGAIN. Always with Love, Nancy

Hi Nancy, So glad to hear from you. It sounds like you are starting out on a new adventure. As you know I love doing that and think it keeps me young. We have been in TN for 7 years now and that means it is about time to move on. We can not increase the size of the gardens any more because it takes all day just to keep up with the ones we have. We still love the farm and the growing but Norman’s eyes are giving him trouble, he has no central vision in his right eye and has macular degeneration in his left eye. He has been having shots in that eye for 3 year or more and now the bleed has stopped and he only has to have a shot once in a while but now he has a cataract that needs care in that eye so that helps make us think about moving on. He can’t farm if he can’t see so we are thinking of other things we want to do and will just move on to the next thing on our bucket list. We have several things left on our list to try and now it is time to start looking at them and seeing which we want to try next. Before we do anything we have a house in Witwell, TN that we need to sell so we do have some time to decide I just hope it don’t take too long to sell. We still have our place here in Florida and love it so this will become our primary place when we sell the two in TN.
Don’t forget to send me your new address so we can keep in touch. Do enjoy you new move and just relax and enjoy life. Love you Carol
So glad you made it safely back to land of sunshine! We are off on vacation for two weeks, and I’ll call when we get back. Lots of love and happy Thanksgiving to the whole family.

Hope you are having a great vacation. I have started the story of the farm that I want to send to Mother Earth. They have asked for people to send in stories about how they started their homestead and we would love to have them tell about our farm, that should go a long way toward selling the place if they publish it. We also want to put an add in Mother Earth when we put the place up for sale. We do need to get the Whtwell house sold first so there is no hurry.
We spent the afternoon with Becca and the family. She and Patty were cleaning out Becca’s game room and we played with the kids. James is so cute with his glasses. He is only two and really very good about keeping them on. Do you remember when you got your first pair of glasses?
Have a wonderful vacation and call when you get home. Love you Mom
