June 1913

We arrived back home on Sunday about 9:30.  It was nice to see the farm again.  It wintered pretty good.  There are several limbs down that will need to be picked up and burned but only one we had to stop and get out of the road inorder to get in.  We had called ahead to get the phone, cable and internet turned on so we had everything except the cable when we got here.  The mail will start up again today.  Yesterday we sat around and waited all day for the cable to get hooked up and working. We got all unpacked and things put away.  I started some spring cleaning but decided I need to do a deeper job of it.  My kitchen is so small if I don’t reorganized my cabinets I will not have enough room for the things I need the most to work with.  So each day I will redo one cabinet until I am all done.  I also decided to hoe out my closets.  I have no room to hang clothes because I have so many there that I never use anymore.  I have suits from when I was teaching 15 years ago and will never wear again so it is time to throw them out and make room for the things I do use.   It is nice to be back on line.  Hope to hear from Joyce and Nancy soon and see how they made it through the winter.

This week it is cold so we have not yet started cleaning up the gardens but need to as soon as this cold snap is over and the promise of snow is gone.  The spring flowers are blooming so need to have a clean bed to show off in.  Have a good day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

  1. Joyce Larrabee says:

So glad to hear you got thru the winter o.k. It must seem good to get back on the farm. That is your life. We’ve had a pretty good winter. Don just got out of the hospital yesterday. Went in on Fri. and had to stay til Mon. for a chemical stress test. Didn’t find anything. He has pains once in awhile in his heart. I stayed with him. He is very tired and weak today. He has had 3 heart attacks . Has to go back to his regular Dr. and also see a cardiologist from C.M.C. in Manchester. They come to Huggins 2 days a week. Will be glad to see summer get here. Just had a bad storm yesterday, and another coming on Wed. Not looking forward to it. Suppose you will be planting soon, and then you will be busy. Glad you are home. Love, Joyce and Don.

    • Hi Joyce, So sorry to hear Don’s heart is giving him trouble. Keep him well fed and away from all the foods that are bad for him. Norman’s eye doctor calls me “the food Nazi” but it has kept him healthy and his heart strong so neither one of us mind. Give him our love and keep me posted on his progress. Love Carol and Norman.
