May 1913

I got everything here in the house set for our trip south.  I have decided to take my knitting and my diaries to blog and leave the family tree material here to work on when I get back in the spring.  It just takes up too much room to carry and I hope I don’t have that much time to work on it.  I hope I am busy with the family and not just working on the computer, I can do that here.  Norman has gotten all his tools ready to leave for the winter, the tractor, the chain saw and all the small tools put away.  So he too is ready to go and antsy for Saturday.   I still have packages to mail out to Joe and his family with the knitted things for Christmas.  I can take Patty’s and her family’s things to her and Shanti I hope can take Dyhanne’s to her.   Everyone else will get cookies and candy that I will make in Florida.  I never know what to buy so making the gifts works out much better and then of course there are cases of can goods for everyone – that is the biggest part of their Christmas present and their bonds.    The weather is cold but very nice today.  The sun is warming things up a bit, it was 30 this morning so we got our first frost.  Some places got a hard freeze but here on the mountain it was just a very light frost.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

  1. Hello Carol, Shirley and families,
I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday wherever you are celebrating it! I will go to Dick’s and Suzie will spoil us all with her wonderful home cooking. Mike will come from Ct. and join us and spend a few days here with me. He will probably head to Fl. after the Chrismas holidays. After our big turkey dinner and we settle down to visit, my friend Peter will come by to meet all the family. That will be nice and a good chance to meet several at one time. It will be fun!!!!

I guess you will be in Fl. by Thursday and having Thanksgiving with Patti and her family. Plus you will enjoy seeing those twins again. Bet they have grown a bit since you last saw them. You have a busy, happy winter ahead and a grand change from you farm life as well.

So drive carefully and enjoy every minute. Sending you much love and keep us all posted up in the ” cold country “.
    Nancy

    • Hi Nancy, Thank you, and a happy Thanksgiving to you also. We got into Port St Lucie yesterday and had a wonderful visit with Patty, Becca, Chris, Gina and the twins. Today Patty had to work this morning but is now her visiting with Shanti. Chris is working out of town and will not be back until Wed. Night so Becca and the kids will be here when she gets out of work. Tomorrow we take Shanti to the air port so she can get back to New Mexico to be with her family for Thanksgiving. Time to go back to visiting. Say hi to the family love Carol
