March 1913

Very cold to day but we are lucky, the sun even come out today.  I hope this storm has not left you too badly off.  Can you all keep warm?  I have been thinking of all of you to day and praying everyone is well and warm.  I made soup, it came out good and have enough for about three more days for supper.   No frost yet so I have a whole basket full of peppers that I will seed and freeze in the morning.  The sweet potatoes have not amounted to a thing.  Some animal ate most of the leaves so we dug up a few to see if they had had a chance to grow any potatoes but they have not.  next year we will put them in much earlier in the year.  Take care of yourself.  Have a good night.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

    Hi Carol,
The storm was very light here and no problems at all. I was well prepared for the worst and so glad it never came. Still raining now but no wind and rain is light. For once, I didn’t even lose my power. But…..elsewhere not so lucky!!!!

The kids got back to Fl. just before the flights were being cancelled. We had a wonderful visit!!!! Aidan, my grandson, is handsome , very affectionate, thoughtful and such a pleasure to be around. He is in his 2nd yr. of college. Thinking now of changing his major to premed and follow his father’s footsteps. Can change again too I am sure. Tim was getting over a bad cold and looked tired but enjoyed his mini vacation. So far I haven’t getten his bug and don’t expect to.

I will get my new prescription glasses this week and then life will be easier again. The eye healed nicely!! Thanks for thinking of us all and sure your prayers helped. guess you are thinking Fl. now and I envy you. But…..I haven’t minded our winters too much yet and don’t get antsy until March. Then I want Spring badly!!!!!

    Until another day.
    Love you, Nancy..

    • Thanks for giving me an update on the storm. From here it looked like you were getting buckets of water, am so glad that was not true. We didn’t get any effect from the storm only the cold front that made the storm worse for New England. I bet you loved the visit, your grand grandson sounds like a delight. You must have done something right to have your kids and now your grandkids turn out so well. That is such a nice feeling as you get older, you know it was all worth the effort. We are very antsy to get going to Florida and will go just as soon as we pull everything together here. The yellow onions have not come yet and if they aren’t here by the end of next week I will call Gurney’s and tell them to keep them, I am not waiting for them after the 15th of Nov. Take care and keep warm. Love you Carol
