Oct. 1911

I read Web’s diaries yesterday and found Leslie’s birth on Jan. 20, 1900.  There was no mention of anything wrong.  Everyone in the family came to see him and they did not have the doctors come.  I found the death on June 14, 1900 and again no reason given.  They burried him on June 17th at Horse Meadow Cemetry in in a new plot they paid $18 for.  This became the family plot where they then burried the baby born in 1905, I found her death notice also on ancestry records.  The family story always was that Leslie died of spineabifeta (not sure of the spelling) which was the same thing that Herman’s first child died of but I could not find any proof of this.  It rained almost all day yesterday.  The sun come out for a short time in the afternoon but it never dried out enough to work out side so I spent the whole day on the computer.  It is still cloudy with showers forcasted today so I will work more on the family tree.   Have a good day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

  1. Hi Carol,
Got my eye done on thursday and great trouble getting used to this new lens. The other eye didn’t seem to bother me as much. could be because I am 4 yrs. older. so until I get my new corrected glasses, which can’t be prescribed for a month, I will have to be this way. Excuse all the mistakes. Otherwise, everything is going very well. I am happier than I have been for a long time…..so good!!!! Peter will come here this eve. so we can watch the debate together. We have so many interests in common. No other news but I plan to mail Skipper’s obit. out to Shirley as soon as I can write legiably.
    Until another day,
    Nancy

    • Hi Nancy- So glad everything went well. Norman has to have that done sometime but both he and the doctor are putting it off as long as they can because sometimes there is trouble and where he only has the one eye with cental vision they don’t want to take a chance until they have to. I have been working on the family tree on ancestry.com and have heard from some distant relatives from that. I got one message from a Bronwen Loeb. He is related to us through Lemuel Brown. He is a decendent of Charlie Brown, grampa Bown’s brother. I love hearing from distant relatives and trying to figure out how we are related. I just wish I had more time to study it. I guess that is what I will do when I retire from the farm and just do it part time for the next two or three years. Keep well and have fun. Love Carol
