Family Tree

Years ago when I started researching the family tree I did alot of work on this same period of when the Thayer Family moved to Harrisiville.  At that time my brother Warren told me he had a diary of when they moved to Harrisiville and that the house they lived in was burnt down and Web got his things out before he woke the family to get out.  Warren never had much good to tell of Web so I took it with a gain of salt and many of Warren’s stories were not exactly true, but I kept that in the back of my mind as I worked on the family tree.  When I started putting Web’s diaries on my blog I remembered what Warren had told me and at first I thought they lived in the tenament house where Walter Luoma lived by the way Web described the area and I was right but as he went on I thought they must have moved to the brick house and there was no word of a fire.  As I finished 1907 and looked at 1908 I found the first half of 1908 was missing and had no idea why.  When Mr. Carroll began building his house I knew he lived in the tenament that Ernest lived in so when he began building his house I thought it must be that the tenament had burned and he was rebuilding there but I find that is not true.  Web knew of the constuction because Mr. Carroll lived in the same building as Web and Web had very little to occupy his mind so he followed the construction of the new house.  I am now trying to see if I can find out which house he did build.  As I read the diary I did have for 1908 I find that the family had moved to the “Ark”.  Which was a hotel/boarding house down below the mill on the brook.  From there Web says they moved to the brick house.  So now that mistery is solved.  The tenament house they first lived in was burnt in 1908 and the diary that Warren had was the first half of 1908.  I don’t know if Warren’s children have that diary or if it has been lost but I would love to read it.  I can go on with the story even without it as I know now what happened.  I am also missing 1910 diary and have no idea what happened that year but will go on with 1911 when Ernest dies and Dora has taken in many boarders.    Today is a very rainy day.  They call for between 3 and 5 inches of rain today and tomorrow.  We do need the rain but that is a bit much!!  I will be spending the day working on my family tree.  I finally realized I have researched the tree back a long long way but I had forgotten the tree keeps on growing and I have not recorded the new branches that have sprouted in the last 50 years.  I haven’t even put my own branch on the tree say nothing of my brother’s and sister’s branch so now I will correct that mistake.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
