As you can see from the diary, times were very hard for the farmers in 1906. Ernest is still only getting part time work here and there and as we know today that is hard for a man with a family. But he will keep looking.
Today here we canned the few tomatoes we got from our garden. We got three quarts of marinara sauce and one quart of tomato juice. I spent most of the afternoon organizing my pictures. Now I have them together as they should be. I got two new albums and that helped a lot. Tomorrow we will burn. We burn all the paper and things that will burn. We recycle all that can be recycled and compost all that will compost. Things that don’t fall into one of these groups go to the land fill which costs 11 cents a pound. We don’t put much there, it usually cost us about a dollar to a dollar and a half every six weeks. Tomorrow we have the burning to do and will burn some brush at the same time. We do all our burning in a burn barrel as we don’t want to take a chance of the fire getting away from us here in the woods. Have a great day.
