July 1905

Raining again today.  This month has been very good for rain and I think the rain now is back to normal.  The new fall plants are all up and growing well.  Today I picked more tomatoes to go with the few I picked on Saturday and we had about 20 pounds to can.  We have just put 7 quarts of the marinata sauce in the canner and when that is done we will put in 1 more quart of sauce and 5 quarts of tomato juice.  As Web always said, “Done a good days work.”  Now on the Web in 1905.   He still can not light a fire under Ernest to get the farming done.

July 1, 1905  Sat  Cloudy  Ernest gone out to the corner to see if Grace will come and work for him.  Dora is some better    hope she will get along with out moving the fever.     Aurthur Irvin is getting in Hay back of the Barn

July 2  Sun.  Rain   Rainy day    Grace Thayer was here to day   going out home      had Crnest Horse to go with from here    big rain last night   lots of Hay got wet.

July 3  Mon.  Warm  Trade very good   I am doing the work for Dora.  She is geting better    going to get a Girl some time

July 4  Tues.  Cloudy & warm  The fourth went off quiet   found the Doc wagon on the Band Stand   good place to House it   The doc & Will Upton took it down from its roost and the doc took it home     it looked well roosting on the Band Stand    Authur Irvin geting in Hay

July 5  Wed.  Pleasant   good time to Hay     we have got a chance to get a Girl   Mattie Carr   will tell us to night.  We lost Angie to day     found her in Mr Shouthards   we all got stired up.

July 6 Thurs.  Warm  I am doing the work in the Kitchen with Doras help   she is some better    going to have a girl next week  I hope Mattie Carr

July 7  Fri.  Hot to day  Ora & Glen are Hoeing Ernests potatoes   The corn to is grassie to    He went through it   it is the Hottest day we have had yet this year

July 8   Sat.  Hot day   Lamb the clerk has left the store   he went out last  night and got his knose broke and Ernest fired him.  Telephoned to his Father to come up and see him when he gets better he is going to try to get him at Pikes to work.

July 9  Sun.     Hot   Ernest gone to get Matt Carr to work for a few weeks   Molton was here at supper    the Watts stoped last night

July 10   Mon.  Cloudy  Hoed in the garding    weeds are growing fast    Coburn Comenced shingling  Gunner Bacon garn    Mrs Medcalf down from Woodsville  Keet greens out of garding

July 11  Wed  Cloudy & hot  Hoed in Garding    the clerk got back to work this morning     worked well to day   Ernest, Dora & Angie went up to cementry

July 12  Wed.   Hot   Hoed in garden   mr Pike was here to day   Ernest put Paris green on Patotoes    Merrill Clouth &  wife at the store   done a good trade   ( Paris green is a lime which potatoes need to avoid the scab)

July 13  Thur.   Hot  Every thing is quiet    Frank Sleeper mowed his grass back of his barn   good time to Hay     I finished up hoeing in garding

July 14  Fril  Hot & showers  Abie Meader was in to see me     he is going back Monday    Trad not very big    had him to get Hay today

July 15  Sat.  Cloudy & cold   I hoed Mrs Medcalf garding    lots of hay got wet and is out over Sunday

July 16  Sun.  Hot   Ernest & Dora gone to Lisbon   Ira here this morning    went off about noon    went home I guess    grass wants cutting   bad ripening fast   ( if the grass or hay ripens too much before they cut it, it is not as good for feed as all the seed heads fall off and it is just straw left for the cattle to eat)

July 17   Mon    Coudy & hot  Pulled weeeds after supper with the Boys.  The IOOF istall the officers to night   I do not feel very well or I should go over.

July 18  Tues.   Warm   I pulled weeds on the potatoes   Trade very good for Haying    I did not feel very good to day   hope I may feel better to morrow.   Grace Thayer & her tilbon was up from the corner  his Name was Page   had social time

July 19  Rain  Rained all fore noon    Hot in the afternoon   We Boys pulled weeds after supper.  Poor Hay weather    it looks like rain to night.

July 20  Thur.  Pleasant  Rained in the morning    Ernest is having his grass cutt    Fred Partridge is mowing it for him   it is cooler to day    Picked weeds after supper

July 21  Fri.  Pleasant   Ernest is geting his Hay to day    Fred & Harry Partridge is helping him    I done some raking this afternoon    good time to get it

July 22  Pleasant  Ernest  finished Haying   Fred Partridge helped him   Pd him $10.00 good time to day      Grace Thayer she going to have Prince to go to the Corner     coming to night   went to her Fathers    her birth Day 25 years old

July 23  Sun   Pleasant   Went with M.A. Meader over to Henry Glyns    everyone haying to day

July 24  Mon.  Cloudy   No hay day to day.   Marly & Moses A  home got them a potato      sprinkler  take 4 row to a time drawed by a Horse   Lost Angie to day    found her on the Hays mow asleep

July 25  Tues   Cloudy  No hay day to day    Showers all day   by times Picked weeds out of Potatoes    Potatoes look good   not much Haying done yet    Ernest & Dora gone out to Dora Fathers

July 26  Wed   July 26   Cloudy   Not a good Hay day   ernest & Mr Lamb are paking up the Store goods to go to Pikes station   done trading in his store     some feel good and some feel bad to see the store closed    Dora took me down to Jam Eastmans

July 27 Thurs.  Jim Mowed forenoon     got in one load Hay then it rained   a shower wet things up

July  28  Fri.  Jim mowed in the morning got in 10 loads hay after noon    Sarah milked 13 cows at night    the Boys got in Hay

July 29   Sat.  Cloudy  Jim got his Hay all up with the sythe     I rode the Horse rake    the Boys all worked  like   When Ernest came down and got me at night  he and angie come

July 30  Sun.  Rain   Rain all day very hard rain   Ernest & Mat gone to Swiftwater    guess they will get  went but they must go so they may take it    George Wells was Buried to day.  ( Web wrote all his diary in pencil but he had no easer so some times his thoughts went a head of his writing and made it hard to understand)

July 31  Mon.  cloudy   All at home to day   not doing but very little

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
