MEMO Em Tuttle died Sept13, 1944
Another busy morning. I got up at 5 this morning so I could mix up some donuts. I made up three batches and set them to cool in the refridgerator until we had breakfast and went to McMinnville to get a load of horse manure. Mr Rigsby loaded us up with a nice load of aged barn cleaning and then told us there would only be two more loads as he no longer boards horses and the pile he is working on now is the end of it. We will go back twice more this month and that should finish it up. We have been getting it from him for two years now and have built up our soil well enough. We will not enlarge the gardens any more so can get along without the manure and will use the last two loads as a pile to use as we need it. If we cover it so the rain does not leach out all the good, it should last us all of next year. When we got back from there Norman unloaded the manure and I fried 5 dozen donuts and 6 dozen holes. I froze most of those but kept some out for today. Norman likes them right from the freezer. He puts one into the micro-wave for 30 seconds to have with his coffee each morning. We both finished our jobs just in time for dinner and now we will take it easy for the afternoon. Tomorrow Norman will till the garden and we will plant the fall garden. We got a little rain last night so we don’t have to water today. Have a great day.
