The days are hot and dry again so we do all our work in the morning. This morning I went out at 6:30 to pick beans and got a nice mess of them. Since Norman had his open heart surgery he has walked 2 – 3 miles each morning and that is very important so while he is out walking I pick the vegetables for the day. I also got two more zucchinis and a cuke. Then after breakfast we went into McMinnville to the farmer’s market. I got some apples from John and asked about cucumbers for canning. He didn’t have any small ones but found me a farmer who did and who would sell me all I wanted for $1.00 a pound. That was well below the $2.00 for a little tray of them that everyone was asking. I got 9 1/2 lb enough to make some dill pickles for Tom & family. I aways give them some for Christmas but this year my cucumbers have not done well at all so thought I could not make them. Thank goodness for John!! Then we stopped and got some meat for the freezer and came home to can 3 1/2 quarts of green beans and 3 quarts of zucchini with tomato sauce. Tomorrow I will make an apple pie and freeze four apple pie fillings from the new apples I got. And I’ll make the pickles – NOt today, have already worked until I got a back ache so will take the rest of the day off.
