Today started a little better, 71 at 6:30 so I got out early and picked the blueberries, I got just over a quart so made a pint and a jelly jar full of blueberry sauce. After breakfast I went down and picked out more of the blossom end rot infected tomatoes. There are some good ones coming now but the poor plants need mother nature to water them or they will never make it. Then I picked the green beans and got about two quarts of those, I picked the rest of the lettuce as that is bolting and not long for this world so it is either eat it or lose it. And I pick the last planting of onions and got a few good green onions to use in salads. That is the last of those also. The third planting of green beans that bloomed so well before this heat wave began, still is not growing. I guess nothing grows when it is this hot. My flour came from Littleton. I got 20 pounds of the sifted whole wheat flour, 10 pounds of the steel cut oats, 2 pounds of the corn flour and 2 pounds of the wheat brand. That will do me for a while. Also my sodum free beef boulion came from Amazon along with 3 pounds of mission figs. I have just one more package coming and that is my vanilla beans. Tomorrow we will go to Spence and get the vodka for the vanilla extract and see if we can find the meat we want for when the kids come. After supper we always go down and water but just as we finished supper the thunder came rolling in and it rained hard. At first we got quite a bit of wind and a little hail but it soon changed to just rain. We got 6/10th of an inch so we didn’t have to water today, which was nice as I was pretty tired today. Then later it rained again and I bet we got close to an inch in all. They say we could get more tomorrow, I hope so. This could be just the break we needed to save some of the gardens. I found a new recipe for bake zucchini which was very good. Alice sent me a good recipe for a green bean salad. Thinly slice two small onions into a bowl. French slice a dish of green beans. Cook the beans or heat them up if you have left over beans and drain well. Add the hot beans to the onions and add enough oil and vinegar dressing to coat and stir well, chill. This is a good salad and a wonderful way to use more green beans. Have a great day.
