HOT HOT

We are all breaking records now.  Nashville hit 105 today and we hit 97.2.  That is the hottest we have seen in the five years we have lived here. Nashville is almost 4 inches behind on rain in June and over 6 inches below normal for the year and we have had a lot less rain than Nashville so between the lack of rain and the heat we are losing our garden.  We do water each evening but by noon the gardens are powder dry again.  There is just not enough water to stop the killing of plants.  We will keep trying but I am afraid it is losing battle for the tomatoes, maybe we can save the beans and the squash but they are calling for 90 to 105 each day over the next seven days and no relief in sight beyond that.  Tuesday there is a 20% chance of showers but we never get those up here.  But that is the life of a farmer, just thankful we don’t depend on our gardens for our livelihood as so many around here do.  Today I worked on the raspberries some more and have about two or three more days before I am done.   I am watering well as I prune so they are happy and doing well.  Norman weeded and watered the grapes well so they are not as stressed and may make out alright.  My ice cream maker arrived yesterday so after chilling the drum in the freezer over night we made some vanilla ice cream today.  It was very easy and very good but much too rich for us.  It will be great for the kids when they come.  We need to try some of the other frozen deserts and see if we can find some that are not as rich.   Today I got my new college courses.  I got one on Calculus for me and one for Patty on the stars.  I hope she likes hers, I know I will enjoy mine.  Time for bed so must run.  Talk to you tomorrow.

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

    Sorry to hear it is getting so hot down there for you. Hope your garden will be alright after all the hard work you have put into it. Praying for you. ♥♥

      Thank you, Joyce for your prayers. We will keep watering and hope it helps. I am also looking into other things to make for Christmas presents that I can make in case the plants don’t come through the heat. Never say die, just keep on plugging!! Nothing can get me down as long as we are both still alive and well.
