Another hot dry day, we have not had rain enough to do any good for over a month and it looks like another dry day today.  I have been watering every day and will again today.  Yesterday we soaked the ground good and set out 58 very small tomato plants.  The sixteen we did earlier are growing and doing well or at least most of them are.  Saturday we go to the annual plant sale in McMinnville and will get at least two dozen more.  If any of these that we have set out don’t make it we will replace those later.  We are going to be evaluating this year the value in planting so many tomatoes.  If we harvest all we need to can and eat fresh maybe it will be worth the effort and space otherwise it many be better to buy tomatoes to can and use the garden space for other vegetable we would like to can or freeze that we can not buy at the farmer’s market.  Like the broccile, we could not grow that as cheaply as we can buy it as long as this one farmer still grows and sells it.  She makes jellies and jams to sell and has trouble growing enough raspberries so I like to give her a couple quarts of the fresh raspberries in return for the reasonable broccile.  Today I hope to get started on moving my sewing machine and all the sewing junk down to the studio and moving my writing items up here to my storage area off the loft.  I want to get to sewing the things I need for my great grand daughters.  Dyhana was here last fall and I gave her a small new born baby doll I had left from my doll collection, she call him Primo and he had no clothes.  I promised to make him a night dress and other clothes and them forgot all about it until I got a letter from her father who said she still carries Primo around all the time.  I felt so badly that I had forgotten so now I need to get sewing again and think it will be easier down in the studio where I will have room to set out my patterns and cloth.  Gina has gotten to the age now where she likes to dress up and pretend to be a princess.  So I need to get busy on a pretty outfit for her to play with when she comes in July.  So the knitting will take a rest along with the writing and I will spend some time each afternoon sewing.  I am still trying to add recipes to my blog as I do need to get all the new recipes I got this winter need to be recorded and organized so I don’t forget those.  So if you wish to see any of those look under recipes on my blog.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
