My back gets better each day, still not able to do much heavy gardening put I do get the gardens all watered and pull a few weeds.  I take care of the seedlings first thing every morning and right now they are growing well.  I water them every morning before the sun get to them and with day temperatures in the low 80’s and nights in the mid 60’s they stay out side all the time and love it.  We still have not had a drop of rain so the watering is necessary or we could lose everything.  The flowers are changing now, the iris are almost gone, just a few big bearded iris left, the big pink rose still has about 2 dozen blooms but no new buds, the small red roses – one is blooming the second is budded, the bleeding heart is still in bloom, the hellabor is still in bloom, the dianthus are now blooming, the English prime rose is finished and taking it’s summer rest.  The peonies are just starting to open and look beautiful.  The lilie of the valley are almost done, the may flower is done, the forsythia is of course done as well as the red bud.  I cut the buds off the mums so they will not get leggy and will wait until fall to bloom, that is when we want them as there are not too many thing blooming in the fall.  The hydrangeas are fully budded and looks like they will be pretty this year.  The berries are getting set, the strawberries are blooming and some are set, the raspberries are all blooming, the blueberries are so loaded some are hanging to the ground, the grapes are growing but not many grapes this year, the pear tree has two pears for the first time and the yellow apple tree has four or five apples for the first time.  The peach trees are loaded and all looks good for them. The vegetable are going great, we are still eating lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, and green onions.  The peas are blooming, the potatoes and green beans are budded and today Norman planted the zuchinni, cucumbers and butternut squash.  The tomatoes we planted look good and we have about 30 more to plant tomorrow.  We will get another 4 dozen at the plant sale on Saturday.   We got only about half dozen carrots to germinate so will put some pepper plants in that row with the few carrots that are there.   Guess that is the update for this week.  I hope to get some pictures to show you tomorrow, I have never used the camera before but am going to try.  Have a great day.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.
