Home Again

We had a wonderful four months in Florida.  We spent most days with the new twins, James and Colby.  James is my baby and Colby lights up whenever he sees Grandad.  We arrived back home on Sunday.  It was a good trip home with no problems and there were no problems here at home.  The garlic that we planted last fall is up about a foot tall and looking good.  Every garden needs weeding and cleaning up from the winter but we want to plant the spring crops first.  Monday we went to McMinnville to the Feed and seed store and got the seeds we need plus 25 pounds of seed potatoes and 4 pounds of onions sets and two bags of super rainbow fertilizer.  Yesterday Norman weeded the bed that we planned for the peas and got those half done.  I weeded the garlic and started weeding the bed for the onions.  Today we will finish those and start on the next beds.  Norman will work on the house garden where he will plant the beets, spinach, lettuce and swiss chard and I will work on the potato bed.  Inbetween times I am starting the tomato seeds in side.  I hope to get all the plants we need as 100 plants cost so much to get if I can’t grow my own.  Have a great day, nice to be back.  Let me know how your winter went and what you are doing this spring.

About Carol (Ouma) Petts

I am a retired teacher. I have taught all levels from kindergarten through college and have been retired now for over 20 years. The last ten years we have lived on a farm and lived off the land, growing our own food and canning for our extended family. Now we have sold the farm and are moving to Florida to truly retire. I guess I have always had a short attention span as this is our 11th move. We have moved from a small farm in New Hampshire, to more city type living, small business adventures, focusing more on traveling, Florida living, Georgia, and Tennessee farming and now back to Florida. My blog is a way to keep my children up to date on what I am doing and letting them know I am still alive and well. My children are spread across the country from New England to Florida, Nova Scotia to New Mexico and CA and several places between, They let me know what they are up to by commenting on my blog but they are so busy with their own lives most times I have to assume " no news is good news". Now I are starting on a new adventure so will try to give daily updates until we get settled into a routine. Then I know even if I am getting older and should settle down I will start looking for some new and exciting adventure to start. Welcome aboard. Norman died Oct 30, 2017 so I am continuing the journey alone with the aid of my children, grand children and great grand children. At present I am living with my daughter and we are 7 in one house and cover four generations. We range in age from 7 to 85 and are finding common ground, we are living proof that multi generations can live and function in a three bedroom house if they really want to. Soon my grandson will have his house built next door so we all will have a room of their own except for the seven year old twins who by choice will share a room.

Glad to hear that you had a good winter, and now you are back home getting your gardens ready. You are such an inspiration. Will be looking forward to reading about your daily chores. We had a pretty good winter. Not much snow, yet. Supposed to be some coming this week. Hope you two stay healthy and enjoy your gardens. ♥

  2. It has only been a month since we got home but it seems like a whole year. We have been so busy and things are growning so fast it makes the time slip by without noticing it. Our fruit trees are blooming this year for the first time. We have had peaches for two years but this is the first time for the apples and pears. I hope they got polinated and will set fruit but only time will tell. At least it is a beginning and next year there will be more. We are both healthy and happy, I hope you are the same.
