Yesterday I worked as long as usual but didn’t seem to get as much done. I guess it is the let down from all the tomato canning. I picked the tomatoes that were ready or had blemishes on them, then sorted them – some to stuff for two meals, the tiny ones, green ones, and ones with blemishes to cut out, these go right into the freezer then when frozen into a large bag to use this winter in soups, stews, beans, etc – and the rest got skun, deseeded and sqeezed and cooked into tomato paste. I got twelve cup cake size frozen lumps of tomato paste and a quart and a half of tomatoe juice, finished the job at 6 pm. Most of that time was in the crock pot so not hard work, just had to keep an eye on it. I had hoped to do some weeding but I had no ambition by afternoon and it was just such a perfect day I didn’t feel like any work. So today I need to get to the weeds. Norman dug up the new squash bed. He put it way up the hill away from the other garden so the vines can run all they wants to without bothering the other plants. He then watered the tomatoes that are still alive and sprayed the old squash and mellon plants to kill the squash beetles before we pull all the plants. Maybe that will keep too many from wintering over for next year. Have a great day.
