Went out early before it got warm or rained. It can’t seem to make up it’s mind this week if it will be sunny or rain. Last evening we had quite a storm and got 3/4 of an inch of rain. The gardens loved it. I went out this morning and finished cutting out the old cane. Every cane that had berries on it this year needed to be cut right back down to the ground and the new cane needed to be cut off at about 5 feet tall. Finally got it all done and got another half cup of berries now I need to go up and see if there are any black berries, then I can combine the two and make a little jelly. Norman put in the last of the posts and put in the cement for all six of them. Now they have to set and on Thursday we will put up the chicken wire to make three rows of raspberries and I will tie the canes to the wire. Any that do not reach the wire I will dig up and transplant in beside the wire where we are enlarging the garden. Then I have to keep the canes cut off so they don’t bend over the wire and try to root into the ground we have all the roots that area can suport. The butternut squash plants are going wild and trying to take over the whole cleared area. Next year we will have to plant them in a new bed further away from the main garden so they have room to run without choking out everything else. Patty arrives on Thursday. Tomorrow we go to the farmer’s market at 8 am and then on the Murfreesboro for a shot in Norman’s eye. He is not looling forward to that! He never likes it but this time is even worse as his doctor, Dr Law, who he likes is not going to be there. She is having her baby now but will be back for his next shot.Have a great day.
